Navigating Success in ‘24…3 keys to Clear Communication.

This is the 4th and final part in the series of How to Navigate Success in ‘24
The results of poor Communication are everywhere - too many wasteful meetings, duplication of effort, lack of clarity, frustrations and in the worst case, conflict…just ask your friends in HR.
Just ‘cos you speak all day doesn't make you a good communicator!
Like all learnt skills it takes Proper Practice!
In my Leadership Coaching practice I’ve found Communications to be one of the most frequently discussed topics.. It cuts through everything we do at work…feedback, negotiations, strategy, sales, research !
The 3 P’s of Communication Success are Prep, People, Practice
Preparation - plan beforehand ..how do you want to be perceived in this communication; what value do you bring; what is your goal?
People - how do you show you are taking their views into consideration; how can you create a connection (understand their fears, views, goals); what is happening to them professionally; what do they need (feedback, help, solutions, to vent)?
Practice - be engaged in listening; asking questions; taking notes; follow ups.
Fortunately, we’re all uniquely different, so there’s no cookie Communication solution that fits all …I encourage you to discover your own approach using the 3P’s, then adapt it to the people and circumstances you face.
A clear, deliberate and authentic Communication approach will save you time/energy and bring you closer to the people that matter to you.
Like most of the things I write about, these are learnt skills that can be built with prep, practice and patience.
As part of my own Communication journey I joined Toastmasters, became an Executive Coach and DISC consultant - this has helped me appreciate good communicators and understand how much more room I have to grow - exciting times.
